Waiting

Laying enveloped
seas of darkness
I search
I squint

dreaming entombed
in infinite blackness
Will the stars glisten?
Will the rays shine?

years pass
stretched out
looking up for anything
a sparkle, a glimmer

the sky remains
still and black
pit of ink
you grope into nothing

suddenly, as assured
a faint little flicker
reaching out to catch it
to treasure it

it slips away
buried in oblivion
crying frustrated
so close
yet so far

night after night
endless waiting
for the shimmer of light
for hope

on the fateful night
fatigued and pained
too tired to go on
too old to give up

a sudden scattering
a continuous sparkle
flashing lights
a starry night
I lay down
serenity
a promise fulfilled
wrapped within the one I love
in the place I dreamed
peace
